Our Story
Good Leather Goods
LPOL (Lost Property of London) is an independent British design brand specialising in ethically made leather and upcycled bags and accessories.
"Our purpose as designer-maker-retailers is to fulfill our customers’ desires to invest in luxury items that make them look good, feel good, and do good - for people and planet. By allowing authenticity, responsibility and circularity to shape the design and craft process, we simultaneously continue to shift the perception of luxury for the better.”
Founded in 2009 by British designer Katy Maskell Bell, LPOL’s impetus was to challenge the culture of fleeting trends and disposable design, to design and craft bags that are enduringly fashionable, versatile, restorable, repairable and ultimately re-wearable - to last beyond one owner, to be worn and cherished by future generations.
Katy’s hunter-gatherer spirit is the driving force to source superior quality natural materials, including salvaged and reclaimed fabric sourced locally in the UK and Europe. Production is centred on helping support and revive local craft skills whilst keeping transportation and emissions to a minimum. Katy, alongside her husband and creative partner John Maskell Bell, have visioned and pioneered a circular, zero-waste production method in their workshops whereby all material waste and offcuts are retained and reused to produce limited edition products, small goods, one-off gifts and artist collaborations. The duo work continuously to make production more efficient, lower-impact and in many cases, made-to-order. The brand's design philosophy is evident in the finished product; clean lines and fussless minimalist form that delivers essential everyday functionality. More than ever before, Katy and John are determined to challenge and shift the perception of luxury, to inspire fashion-conscious, environmentally-aware shoppers around the World.
